What is the cost of studying a Master's program in Zurich?

Financial planning and choosing a master's degree program go hand in hand. Creating a realisitic budget will give yout the freedom to concentrate on your studies. 

Tuition costs are relatively low in Switzerland compared to many other countries However, the cost of living is very high and this is particularly true of Zurich. Although living costs largely depend on individual circumstances and requirements, you should have a minimum of CHF 2,000 per month at your disposal if you are leading an independent life.

Information for Master's International Students

  • Students from third countries must be  able to prove that  they are in posession of  CH 21,000 when they enter the country.
  • No financial support (neither scholarships nor loans)  is available at the University of Zurich for students without a Bachelor's Degree from a Swiss University.
  • We advise you to to inquire about financial support for your studies in your countr of origin. German students can apply for BaFöH abroad. Look out for NGOs and foundations in your country of origin whose mission is supporting promissing graduates.  
  • The opportunities for paid part-time employment are very limited.  You can get further information in the Office for Economy and Labour of the Canton of Zurich.

  • Our goal is to empower yout to take care of the financial aspects of your studies on your own. We will provide you with the information that you need to make this possible.  Most of this information is available in our websites.
  • Sometimes there are specific questions that require  more time. In complex  situations, for example if you want us to review your budget and see whether it is realistic,  it is advisable to plan a longer consultation meeting with us. 
  • In addition to our support services, we also award scholarships and loans to students at the UZH. If you want to submit an application with us, read the various options carefully in advance  to see if you qualify Financial Support Master's Students

Where can I apply for funding?

  • Your  parents are obliged by law to subsidise your studies. If neither your parents nor you are objectively in the position to do so, you can apply for a scholarship in your parents' canton of residence. Kantonale Stellen (German)
  • We place and award momeny from university foundations, private foundations and donations. In this ways, we promote equitable access to the University of Zurich. 
  • Swiss living abroad may file an application in their canton of origin. Further information can be found hier: educationsuisse (German)
